At these temperature regimes, notch toughness is important. As is sustained tensile strength and increased corrosion resistance.

We source ASTM A516 grades from mills across Western Europe. Our suppliers provide these plates in the normalised condition. We can also supply plates as-rolled if required .

Fabricators globally trust Masteel UK for providing high-strength steel worldwide. Many of our customers belong to the world’s largest gas, oil, and petrochemical companies. They trust us in our supply chain excellence for a wide range of business needs.

ASTM A516 Grade 60

Manufacturers commonly use A516 Grade 60, a specific type of steel, in the manufacturing of boilers and pressure vessels. Its high quality is well-known and it is particularly suitable for applications that involve moderate to lower temperatures. Manufacturers in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industry commonly use this steel because it meets their strict requirements.

A516 Grade 60 is preferred for making industrial boilers and pressure vessels due to its strength and durability. These qualities are important for the safe and efficient use of equipment under high pressure and extreme conditions.

Additionally, A516 Grade 60 offers high fabrication efficiency due to its excellent weldability. This ensures joints are strong and reliable, essential for maintaining structural integrity and equipment safety. Also, the strong steel’s toughness ensures it can handle defects or stress points, lowering the chance of sudden breaks or notches.

At Masteel UK Limited, we keep a healthy stock of ASTM Grade 60 carbon steel plates. These plates come with mill certification in compliance with EN10204 3.1 or EN10204 3.2. and are hard stamped and fully traceable. Alternatively we can ship to you directly from the mill.

Please refer to the data tables below. Should your require a pressure grade steel with greater tensile and yield strength, please refer to ASTM A516 Grade 65 and/or ASTM A516 Grade 70.

ASTM A516 Grade 65

A516 Grade 65 is a type of carbon steel that is highly suitable for the fabrication of pressure vessels and boilers. Its design specifically enables high-performance through strong temperature differentials. Specifically, when the surrounding environment has a higher temperature than the stored medium.

A key advantage of A516 Grade 65 is its good weldability. This enables fabricators to construct complex structures; a crucial property in pressure vessel and boiler fabrication, as it ensures the integrity and strength of the final product. The excellent notch toughness of A516 Grade 65 ensures that it can withstand these demanding conditions without compromising its structural integrity.

A516 Grade 65 has greater specified tensile and yield strength when compared with ASTM A516 Grade 60. Various industries such as oil, gas, and petrochemicals utilize this grade. It also finds use in sour service and wet H2S applications. In these applications, the steel undergoes HIC testing.

Masteel UK has ASTM A516 Grade 65 carbon steel plates in stock. We have mill certification in compliance with EN10204 3.1 or EN10204 3.2. The plates are hard stamped and are fully traceable.

ASTM A516 Grade 70

ASTM A516 Grade 70, a high-quality carbon steel plate, is specifically designed for use in colder environments. It is very strong and durable, making it great for things that need to resist cracking and brittleness in cold temperatures.

One of the primary uses of ASTM A516 Grade 70 is in the fabrication of pressure vessels and boilers. These critical components are subjected to high-pressure conditions and must be able to withstand extreme temperatures. Grade 70 steel plate offers excellent tensile strength and toughness. This ensures the structural integrity of these vessels and boilers even in harsh operating environments.

A516 Grade 70 has a fine-grain structure microstructure that enhances its mechanical properties. Achieved through careful alloying and heat treatment, the fine grain structure improves its resistant to cracking and enhances weldability. Both properties are a boon to fabricators.

Fabricators heavily rely on ASTM A516 Grade 70 because of its exceptional properties and reliability. The steel plate comes in different sizes, so fabricators can adjust it to fit their project needs. This material is popular for various applications such as power generation, oil and gas processing, and chemical plants. Manufacturers favor it because of its versatility and ease of production.

A516 Grade 70 offers greater tensile and yield strength compared to A516 Grade 65. It can operate in even lower temperature service.

Our steel plates come with mill certification in accordance with EN10204 3.1 or EN10204 3.2. Third parties or customers can easily track and inspect our plates upon request. We are open to arranging inspections with our clients.
