Defence Industry

Defence projects demand materials that perform with absolute consistency. Every element, from armoured plate to structural framework, must endure impact, pressure, and extended use in some of the world’s most challenging environments. The steel selected for these systems plays a critical role in ensuring safety, functionality, and long-term performance. Masteel supplies certified steels developed specifically for military applications. Each grade is tested to international standards and chosen for its strength, resilience, and reliability across a wide range of defence operations.

Steels for Defence Systems

Masteel offers a targeted portfolio of steels developed to support the specific performance requirements of military and security operations. These grades meet globally recognised standards and deliver reliable strength, toughness, and processability.

Protection 400 Armour Plate

Protection 400 delivers dependable ballistic resistance while remaining highly workable. Its Brinell hardness of approximately 400 and tensile strength of 1250 MPa make it a reliable choice for fabricating armoured vehicles, secure access points, and structural enclosures.

Protection 500 Armour Plate

With a Brinell hardness reaching 540 and tensile strength up to 1600 MPa, Protection 500 is built for high-impact, high-risk environments. This material delivers enhanced protection for tactical vehicles and fortified infrastructure exposed to repeated ballistic threats.

S690QL High-Strength Steel

Engineered for structural integrity under pressure, S690QL is a quenched and tempered steel that delivers both strength and toughness. Defence platforms using this grade benefit from reliable performance in naval components and military equipment exposed to extreme conditions and dynamic loads.

S960QL High-Strength Steel

A quenched and tempered steel specified under the EN 10025-6 standard, S960QL delivers exceptional yield strength of 960 MPa. It’s ideal for weight-sensitive military structures such as high-load vehicle frames, protective equipment, and naval platforms requiring structural integrity under stress.

S700MC Structural Steel

Optimised for lightness without compromising strength, S700MC is a preferred material in mobile defence systems. The combination of formability and durability makes this grade well suited for modular builds and transport structures where agility is essential.

S960MC Structural Steel

Part of the EN 10149-2 family, S960MC is a thermomechanically rolled steel with high yield strength and outstanding toughness. The combination of low weight and dependable performance ensures its a strong candidate for modular military systems, trailer frames, and mobile defence units.

440T and 370T Armour Materials

These specialist steels are designed to absorb energy from blasts and ballistic impacts. Their application in next-generation armour systems reflects growing demands for adaptable, high-performance protection.

Aluminium 5083 H321

Perfect for harsh environments, this corrosion-resistant alloy combines strength with weight efficiency. Commonly used in naval systems and modular defence platforms, it supports manoeuvrability and structural integrity in exposed conditions.

Defence Market Applications

Masteel steels are engineered for environments where failure is not an option. They are integrated into core defence assets, including:

  • Armoured land vehicle hulls and internal protective structures
  • Shipbuilding components and deck assemblies for naval vessels
  • Perimeter walls, barrier systems, and military-grade enclosures
  • Load-bearing frames for weapons systems and tactical trailers
Built for Operational Advantage

The steels supplied by Masteel deliver more than technical compliance. They offer practical advantages that support performance, efficiency, and dependability in demanding defence environments:

  • Certified to international defence standards including MIL-DTL, DEF STAN, and EN 10025-6
  • Proven resistance to ballistic impact, structural stress, and extreme environments
  • High-strength, low-weight options that support mobility and fuel efficiency
  • Custom-cut and profiled materials designed to reduce waste and accelerate production
