Steel Sections

Masteel is a leading supplier of structural steel sections to many locations throughout the world, supplying a wide range of steel products. The range of shapes (sections as we call them in the UK or profiles as they are more commonly known across Europe) is very wide including universal beams and universal columns.

Hollow sections (RHS, SHS, and CHS) are available in metric sizes which are common both in the UK and across the continent. Hot finished hollow sections are supplied in accordance with EN10210 and in EN10219 for cold formed hollow sections. Although the sections dimension may be identical for both hot finished and cold formed, the capacities are not direct equivalents so care is required to ensure the correct grade is requested.

For open sections, although the grades are standardised across Europe the sizes are not. In the UK sections are generally produced according to BS 4-1:1993, which converts imperial sizes to metric (26″ becomes 914mm), whereas on the continent the dimensions are truly metric.

In the UK we use the terms UB (Universal Beams) and UC (Universal Columns) whereas continental beams are I Sections (IPE etc) and columns are H Sections (HEA etc).

The most commonly used grades are S235, S275 or S355. The grade designation represents the nominal yield strength for structural steels (S). Low temperature impact testing can be carried out at your designated test temperature ie -20°C, -30°C,-50°C.

  • major stockholding

  • a variety of finishes
  • quick turnaround
  • a variety of universal beams and universal columns to choose from
  • accurate ‘in-house’ cutting and profiling service
  • high quality steel from major European steel mills
Universal Columns (UC)

Masteel offer a wide range of Universal Columns (UC). In particular, we specialise in high yield steel columns for use in low temperature environments. Low temperature impact testing is available with lengths from 6 metres to 20 metres as standard.

Standards/Grades:
  • EN 10025 S275
  • EN 10025 S355

Note:
The suffix ‘UC’ refers to UK steel columns – for continental columns (also referred to as H Sections).

Hot Rolled Steel Angles (RSA)

Our hot rolled steel angles are used throughout the construction industry, especially in environments where the working temperature is low. Low temperature impact testing is available across our range. As our hot rolled steel angles have a high yield point they are excellent for cold working conditions.

IPE Beams (I Sections)

Unlike Universal Beams (UB), which use UK measurements, IPE Beams (also known as ‘I Sections’) are truly metric.

Masteel supply a wide range of Continental Beams from IPE80 to IPE600. Our high yield IPE Beams are excellent for working in cold temperatures. Low temperature testing is available and can be carried out at your designated temperature ie. -20°C, -30°C, -50°C.

UPN Channels (U Sections)

Masteel are suppliers of UPN Channels (commonly known as ‘U Sections’) which are used throughout the construction industry. These sections are to the continental specification and therefore, unlike UK sections, are truly metric.

Our UPN Channels are high yield making them ideal for use in cold working conditions. Low temperature testing is available and the customer can have their steel tested to their designated temperature, e.g. -20°C, -30°C or -50°C.
