Steel profiling is the process of cutting a sheet of steel into a shape required for an application. Masteel offers a range of steel profiling services in-house, removing the need to use different companies to obtain the steel products you require.

We are able to produce one-off profiles or thousands if required, all finished to tight specifications. Plasma cutting is just one profiling service that Masteel offer.

What is Plasma Cutting?

Plasma cutting is the process of melting a material using an accelerated jet of hot plasma. A compressed gas at a temperature of over 20,000oC is blown through a focused nozzle at high speed to achieve this.

When the plasma hits the material to be cut, recombination takes place and the gas reverts to its normal state, emitting intense heat. The plasma melts the material and the compressed gas blows the molten metal away which results in a clean cut.

Plasma cutting can be performed on any type of conductive material, including steel, aluminum, and copper. It is preferred over flame cutting for these types of material as this process relies on oxidation, and these materials form an oxide making them nearly impossible to cut this way.

Plasma cutting has a range of applications in addition to steel profiling. It can be used to perform metal repairs, cutting away bad or broken welds. It is also a popular choice for demolition as it can remove metal sheets and blocks quickly and easily, leaving behind little debris.

Plasma Cutting Services from Masteel

Masteel has recently purchased a new plasma cutter from Kerf to further extend our plasma cutting abilities. We chose the RUR3500p fitted with a Lincoln Electric Spirit II 400amp plasma cutting system as it provides outstanding cut quality and enables us to keep costs as low as possible.

We are able to cut both carbon and low and high alloy steels in widths and lengths to match your specific requirements. The system also benefits from UltraSharp Cut technology, which uses the most suitable cutting speeds and feeds for the optimum cut, without the need for manual programming.

Whatever your steel specification or requirement, Masteel can provide a suitable solution. Our team is highly experienced and our products are used across a wide range of industries, including engineering, petrochemical, and shipbuilding.
